Linking Freedom of Information and Open Data for Greater Transparency and Participation in Banda Aceh, Open Data Lab Jakarta, 2014-2015
Between 2014-2015, I led the implementation of Open Data Lab Jakarta’s main project titled Linking Freedom of Information and Open Data for Greater Transparency and Participation in Banda Aceh. Partnered with USAID’s Kinerja and a local anti-corruption institution GeRAK Aceh The project supported the city government of Banda Aceh and Civic Society Organisations to identify, analyse and publish data in open format.
The project was divided into 3 phases based on its focus: education (August 2014 – December 2014), health (March 2015-July 2015) and sustainability (August 2015-December 2015). Our activities covered promotion and advocacy (e.g. discussion, meeting, workshop etc.), open data training and mentoring.
By the end of the process, we published requested education data in data portal, training modules, lessons learned paper and how-to-guide on implementing open data initiative for city or regional government. We also laid out foundation for future works like open data legal framework and Open Government Indonesia’s pilot project.
