From June 2010 to September 2011, I joined Engineering, Sciences and Technology Unit at UNESCO Jakarta. At the time, EST Unit, UNESCO Jakarta, partnered with National Research and Higher Education Networks and School on Internet (SOI) Asia Project, Keio University, led the COllaboration for Network-eNabled Education, Culture, Technology and Science (CONNECT) Asia initiative. CONNECT Asia aims to enhance access to information and knowledge sharing and collaboration among its members in Asia-Pacific region. Some of the activities that we successfully implemented were:
- As part of UNESCO COMprehensive Program to Enhance Technology, Engineering and ScieNCE Education (COMPETENCE) in Asia project, we developed and broadcasted series of eLearning course. One of them was Energy for Sustainable Development in Asia which attracted 600 participants from 23 countries.
- We successfully installed satellite and connected National University of Timor Leste (UNTL) with National Research and Education Networks in Asia Pacific region. This project enabled UNTL students and lecturers, who were lacking of education resources, to access to distance learning courses and materials from university partners. In addition, UNTL was also connected to SpringerLINK which allowed free access to online journals and ebooks.
- We hosted number of meetings and workshops such as Feed-in Tariff Workshop (Jakarta 2010), The Workshop of ODA/UNESCO Project for Collaboration on Education and S&T in Asia Pacific Region (Hanoi 2011), and 4th CONNECT Asia meeting (Bangkok 2011).
